Lisa grew up in Houston, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at Austin. After changing degrees multiple times, she focused on art after falling in love with the clay studio and spent the next four years in the ceramics studio. When she graduated, she took out a small business loan to buy studio equipment and entered the world of wholesale marketing, and built her business attending markets in large metropolitan cities.
When her children started school, she became a volunteer art teacher in her rural community. Volunteering led Lisa back to school at New Mexico State University, where she earned her Master's in Education. She went to work for the Las Cruces Public Schools for 16 wonderful years as a visual arts instructor teaching students from pre-school through 8th grade. She became a Level three educator and taught peers arts-integrated workshops at the district, state, and national levels. While working in education, she supervised four school-wide mural projects still enjoyed in schools today. During this time, she had been collecting semi-precious beads. She began spending more time designing jewelry than sculpting clay, enjoying a new challenge, and pushing her creativity in a new direction. She recently took a precious metal clay class and integrated clay into her jewelry work.
Lisa has retired from public school teaching and enjoys volunteering in the art community. Her work can be seen and purchased at Agave Gallery in Mesillas, NM.
